Course description and objectives
For majors, this one hour course must be taken during the Freshman or Sophomore years. Designed to study and discuss research and issues in science and technology and to explore the role of scientists in research, education, and society. The seminar may be repeated each semester, but only 1 hour will count toward the major articulation
Grading and Attendance: You are expected to attend and participate in all classes. No make-ups will be given for work missed during un-excused absences. If you have to miss class, let me know ahead of time. All assignments are due at the start of class. Late work will be discounted 10 % per week. University policies listed in the student handbook regarding attendance and academic conduct will be followed. Note attendance will be taken ad recorded each class period.

Any student found guilty of academic conduct or plagiarism on any assignment , quiz or exam in this class will result in any or all of the following
1 grade of zero on the individual assignment
2. Grade of F in the class
3. Dismissal from the class
4. Dismissal from the education program
5. A notation of academic misconduct on your transcript

Misc. rules and regulations
Evaluation: will be based on 4 student reports and participation of others work. Each report is worth 20 points and participation is worth 10 pts for each report.

Participation 4 at 10 each 40
Totals 120
Grades will be based on a percentage of 120 pts
A= 90-100
B= 80-89
C= 70-79
D= 60-69
F= 0 -59
Reports are to be based on some current area of research , technology or as to the individuals doing this work. The information can be taken from trade journals, periodicals, research papers or approved sources. Each article is to cite the author, source and date. All articles should be written within 4 years or less.
Electronic devises are not to be used during class time except with instructor permission, cell phones are not to be used( except for emergency cases).
If the TRC campus is closed then class will not be in session. If questions arise due to weather or emergency conditions contact the TRC website at TRCC.edu Due to this we will follow the TRC schedule of class dismissal

- Reports will be posted on the discussion board. Students are to comment o reports and questions on he report are to be answered. Discussions are to be done in the assigned posted times.

- Subjects for you report can be in any area of science or math that you have interest. The article MUST be from an acceptable ( credible ) journal or periodical and printed within the last four years. NO PSEUDO SCIENCE articles will be accepted. You may find journals online at the CMU or TRC libraries. Both have access a wide range of resources.
