Course Description

This course is designed to help the student develop the interview and communication skills necessary for a counselor to establish a helping relationship with a client. The counselor must be able to gather information, identify problems, complete a psychosocial history, and formulate a treatment plan. Core (CSR, D)

Course Objectives

By the end of the course, students will be expected to demonstrate their understanding of the following learning outcomes:

 

Counseling and Relationships (2016 CACREP 2.F.5)

d. ethical and culturally relevant strategies for establishing and maintaining in-person and technology-assisted relationships

f. counselor characteristics and behaviors that influence the counseling process

g. essential interviewing, counseling, and case conceptualization skills

h. developmentally relevant counseling treatment or intervention plans

i. development of measurable outcomes for clients

 

Clinical Mental Health Counseling Foundations (2016 CACREP 5.C.1)

c. principles, models, and documentation formats of biopsychosocial case conceptualization and treatment planning

 

Clinical Mental Health Counseling Practice (2016 CACREP 5.C.3)
