Course Special Requirements

This course requires 80 internship hours to be completed in a strength and conditioning facility with a certified professional. The 80 internship hours must be complete and approved to earn credit for this course. Without approval NO credit will be earned for the course.

Course Description

This course is an advanced course for strength and conditioning majors focusing on independent research in design, application, and evaluation of exercise prescription. It includes a professional supervised internship to apply current research in training methods to practical experiences.

Course Objectives

  1. Design training programs:
  • that maximize performance by incorporating various training methods and modes based upon an athlete’s health status, strength and conditioning levels and training goals
  • that maximize performance and muscle balance by selecting exercises
  • by applying the principles of exercise
  • by determining and assigning appropriate exercise intensities (load, resistance, heart rate, etc.)
  • by determining and assigning appropriate training volumes (defined as sets x reps)
  • by determining and assigning appropriate work periods/duration and rest periods, recovery methods, and training frequencies
  • by determining and assigning appropriate exercise progression
  • that maximize performance by applying the principles of periodization

      2.  Facilitate effective and research proven strategies for maintaining a professional client/strength coach relationship while utilizing applicable motivational techniques
