Course Description

Designed to study methods and techniques for testing and measuring the basic factors on which the performance of a wide variety of physical education activities are based. Major emphasis is on the measurement of skills, knowledge, and attitudes pertaining to physical education (K-12).

Course Objectives

The beginning (pre-service) physical education teacher will acquire knowledge and skills in the following areas:

1. Describe the purpose and importance of evaluation and assessment in physical education, exercise science, and sport. 2.3, 2.2, 3.3

2. State why the ability to use statistics is important to the physical educator.

3. Use and interpret fundamental statistical procedures.

4. Select appropriate knowledge and psychomotor tests. 1.10

5. Construct good psychomotor tests

6. Objectively assess and grade students who participate in a physical education class. 2.3

7. Describe the pre-test, testing, and post-test responsibilities for the administration of psychomotor tests.

8. Construct good objective and subjective knowledge tests.

9. Administer psychomotor tests to special-needs populations, interpret the results, and prescribe activities for the development of psychomotor skills. 2.1, 2.3, 3.1

10. Administer affective behavior tests and interpret the results.

11. List and describe the criteria for grades, describe your grading philosophy and develop a grading method that can be used in a teaching assignment. 2.2, 3.2, 3.7
