Write a melody assignment:
Choose a mode or scale other than major or minor and write an 8-bar melody with parallel construction (Question/Answer). The first phrase should end on the dominant, the second phrase should end on tonic. Type your melody into some type of notation software and upload it on myCMU (submit a pdf if you are using Finale).
If you have questions, please email me! I want this to be as unintimidating as possible.
Due: 9/5
Write a melody based on a single tetrachord assignment:
Choose a tetrachord and compose a 16-bar melody using transpositions and inversions of the set. It is permissible for the fourth note of the set to simultaneously be the first note of the next set. Otherwise, no deviations are allowed. Create a palatable melody by using 4-bar phrases in periodic design (you can choose the format). Cadences don't have to follow the traditional harmonic patterns, but resting points should be obvious.
Type your melody into notation software and either type or write the PCs and bracket each set.
Due 10/3 in myCMU.
UPDATE: If you want to rearrange the order of the notes within each statement of the set, you may.
