Development of mathematics through calculus; solutions of problems with historical significance; problems the highlight significant mathematical characteristics. Prerequisite or Co-requisite:  MA504 and MA509; or instructor's permission.

Upon successful completion of the course, each participant should be able to:

• appreciate the accomplishments of pioneering mathematicians.
  
• identify prominent mathematicians from history by their contributions to mathematics.
  
• relate the present day work in mathematics to the historical development of the subject.
