Course Description

MA538 Complex Analysis. An introduction to the study of functions of a complex variable including the algebra and geometry of complex numbers, derivatives, analytic functions, integral theorems, and applications. Prerequisite or Co-requisite: MA504 and MA509; or instructor's permission. 3 hours.

Course Objectives

The student will examine an axiomatic treatment of mathematics.  Fundamental concepts of domain and range, continuity and limits and operations applicable to the real number system are scrutinized and tested on complex numbers and functions of a complex variable. Techniques of differentiation and integration are developed and applied.

Upon successful completion of the course, each participant should be able to:
• evaluate complex functions, including their derivatives and integrals.
• recognize given conditions and the choose appropriate methods of reaching a conclusion.
• analyze given information and apply appropriate methods for reaching a correct conclusion.
• communicate the previous objectives in verbal and written form.
