MA503 History of Mathematics. 3 hours. Development of mathematics through calculus; solutions of problems with historical significance; problems that highlight significant mathematical characteristics. Prerequisite:  MA522; or instructor's permission.

Upon successful completion of the course, each participant should be able to:

• appreciate the accomplishments of pioneering mathematicians.
  
• identify prominent mathematicians from history by their contributions to mathematics.
  
• relate the present day work in mathematics to the historical development of the subject.
