Course Description

A survey from Reconstruction to the present.  Topics include: basic institutions (family, religion, education, politics, and economics); the transition from an isolationistic regional power to an inter-nationalistic world power; the decline of laissez-faire; democratization; recent constitutional interpretation; and the changing status of African-Americans.  This course also fulfills the state civics requirement.

Course Objectives

This course is meant to promote critical understanding of historical facts to achieve four objectives:  
  1. To introduce the student to concepts and technology associated with the US. (MoSPE 1C1)
  2. To explore the personalities, events, and locations important to American society. (MoSPE 1C1)
  3. To acquaint the student with political parties and voting (MoSPE 1C1)
  4. To familiarize the student with important facts and chronology. (MoSPE 1C1)
