Course Description

This course is designed to provide special education teachers with strategies for classroom and behavior management. Students will address such topics as a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA), Behavior Improvement Plans, Adaptive Behavior Analysis, Discreet Trial Training, picture schedules, and picture stories.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of the course, each participant should be able to:

  • Understand the Prevention and Management of Learning and Behavior Problems.
  • Identify the Continuum of Behavior Support.
  • Recognize the importance of Classroom Climate.
  • Understand how Instructional Delivery impacts Student Behaviors.
  • Identify the Instructional Delivery Models.
  • Develop a lesson plan for social skills.
  • Recognize Low-Intensity Strategies of Behavior Supports.
  • Develop a Behavior Contract / Behavior Intervention Plan.
  • Understand the Process of Self-Monitoring of Students with Behavior Concerns
  • Develop a picture story and picture schedule
  • Recognize the effectiveness of Function-Based Assessment Interventions.
