Only the textbook is needed for this course. The paper copies are sold with an online access. However, online access is not needed for this course. Any form of the book will be fine.

 

Course Description

This course is designed to acquaint pre-service and in-service teachers with genuine issues of classroom and behavior management and organization. Participants engage with information that will provide a clear view of the knowledge and skills to be internalized in order to maximize instructional opportunities and insure a successful professional career in Education.  3 credit hours.

 

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of the course, each participant should be able to:

  • Describe how deficits affect the behavior of students
  • Write classroom rules
  • Create procedures for classroom behaviors
  • Develop plan for how to teach classroom procedures
  • Develop procedures for outside of the classroom
  • Describe how to create a positive/calm climate in the classroom
  • Develop a routine for teaching a subject
  • Develop an ideal daily schedule based on student needs’ in a classroom
  • Write an operational definition for behaviors of students in your class list
  • Develop an intervention plan to modify antecedents for problem behaviors
  • Discuss why collecting behavior and academic data is essential
  • Complete a functional assessment and intervention plan
  • Create a lesson plan for how to teach social skills on the universal and tertiary levels.
  • Develop a reinforcement system for the classroom
  • Discuss the Premack Principle and its use in the classroom
  • Develop a token system for the classroom
