Course Description

This course introduces students to educational research methodologies and best practices, with the goal of helping students to understand and critique primary source educational research.  They will also get practical experience in the writing and formatting of a primary source research literature review in APA formatting. 

Course Objectives

Students in this course will learn and demonstrate the following competencies:

  1. Knowledge and understanding of both qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  2. Knowledge and understanding of existing data analysis techniques.
  3. Ability to competently search databases for different types of primary source educational research articles.
  4. Ability to read, understand, and critique different types of research studies in the field of education.
  5. Ability to perform a primary source literature review on an approved topic from the field of education.
  6. Ability to write primary source literature review results in APA format.
  7. Ability to cite and reference in APA format.
  8. Ability to give a professional presentation of primary source literature review results.
