This course requires you to log 16 hours of practicum in a school classroom with a certified public school teacher. It is your responsibility to make arrangements with the school district, and teacher for this experience. Letters and information are included in Resources and Materials to help you with this.

To complete this course, you must be registered with the Family Care Safety Registry. Failure to register by Wednesday of the first week of class will result in your removal from the course. Course Description

The problems, methods and materials of teaching Mathematics in the secondary schools. 3 credit hours.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of the course, each participant should be able to:

  1. Be able to develop, organize and teach lessons involving mathematical concepts in secondary school. MoSPE 1C1, 1C2, 1C3, 1C4, 1C5, 2C3, 2C4, 2C5
  2. Become acquainted with the Missouri Learning standards as well as the Grade-Level and Course-Level Expectations. MoSPE 1C3, 1C4, 3C1
  3. Become familiar with non-traditional methods of teaching and cooperative learning strategies for mathematics. MoSPE 3C3, 4C1, 4C2, 4C3
  4. Be familiar with classroom management strategies. MoSPE 5C1, 5C2, 5C3
