This course is the first in a series of three courses designed to introduce students to curriculum, assessment, student data, data-driven decision making, and instructional strategies.
Course Objectives:
- Know characteristics of effective teachers.
- Understand what to expect the first day and the first year of teaching.
- Develop lesson plans, unit plans with consideration to the Missouri Learning Standards, grade level expectations/course level expectations.
- Communicate learning objectives.
- Create lesson plans/unit plans with consideration to differentiated instruction and learning styles.
- Demonstrate knowledge of critical thinking and problem solving, including various types of instructional strategies, to support student engagement in higher level thinking skills.
- Have a working knowledge of the basics of classroom, time, and behavior management.
- Develop strategies for assessing student progress.
- Demonstrate an understanding of how to work with parents and involve them in their student's education.
- The student will demonstrate the ability to use professional resources related to teaching, including various classroom techniques.
