Dear Students,
Welcome to Methods of Teaching in the Elementary/Middle School. My name is Jami Kahle, I will be your instructor for Methods of Teaching Mathematics in the Elementary/Middle School.
I graduated from Green Ridge High School in 1986. After receiving an Associates of Arts degree from SFCC, I attended UCM where I graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Education (1-8). I later earned my Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from UCM. I have had the opportunity to work in three great school districts during my career and currently get to add teaching at the college level to my resume.
My husband of 23 years and I live on a farm in Pettis County. We have no children, but have 4 fur babies. I am the proud aunt of 5 nieces and nephews and 6 great nieces and nephews.
I enjoy swimming, reading, gardening, and traveling in my free time. My passion of history often dictates where I travel too. I hope to visit all 50 states and experience a piece of the history.
I have been a teacher for 27 years. I spend my first 20 years teaching 5th grade. The last 7 years have been spent teaching language arts students in grades 6-8. My full time teaching job is in a small school district near Sedalia. I have had the unique experience of teaching all grade levels, writing curriculum and training as a eMINTS teacher.
I am not only a part-time instructor for CMU but also a full time teacher at Pettis County R12 School District. I apologize for missing class on Tuesday, March 20th. I have had a very hectic schedule since January. I glanced at the calendar and saw SFCC was on Spring Break this week and thought we didn't meet until next week. As a result of my error, many of you found no instructor in your room. Again, I apologize.
For Thursday's class I would like you to visit http://www.centralmethodist.edu/ . Log on to myCMU and go to ED324 (EX17) SA-MthTchgMathElem Schl. Once you are in the course, use the menu on the left and go to the Resource and Materials link. Here you will find the materials for the course. Please print out and read through the course syllabus and class calendar. We will discuss both these items when we meet on Thursday, March 22nd. I would also like for you to read and take notes over Chapter 1 in your textbook. We will review the material in this chapters on Thursday as well. If time permits, you will test over the chapter on Thursday. I look forward to meeting each of you. See you at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 22nd.
Yours in Education,
Jami Kahle, Instructor
