Course Description

3 hours. Presents methods and materials for integrating social studies and science concepts required in elementary classrooms, including those identified as Show-Me Standards and Project Construct Goals by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Prerequisites: ED315, ED326, and ED327; and concurrent enrollment in ED304

Course Objectives

Course Goals

Upon successful completion of the course, each participant should be able to:

  • have an understanding of pedagogy, knowing how to teach and applying methodologies and strategies in their classrooms to obtain optimum learning experiences for their students.
  • have a solid basis of knowledge about theories of learning and being able to assess the learning theories best suited to the needs of students.
  • have a thorough knowledge and skill to prepare lessons and implement them based upon inquiry, exploration, investigation and research.
  • have learned best practices in making social studies and science more relevant to the students and relating the experience to their life and how they as a person fits into the scheme of life and their environment.
  • be aware of how to create a rich culture and/or environment that promotes learning, inquiry, curiosity, interest and enthusiasm and mutual respect.
