Course Description:

ED 303: Methods and Materials for Teaching Content Classes for Teachers is 3 credit hours.  If the class is cancelled, an email will be sent out through MYCMU. Make sure you check the email you have listed.  The class teaches methods and materials for integrating social studies and science concepts required in elementary classrooms, including those identified as Show-Me Standards by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

 

ED 304:  Teaching in the Content Areas Practicum, 1 credit hour, is a clinical experience which includes observation and participation in planning, implementing, and documenting learning experiences in an elementary classroom.  Attention will be given to an integrated curricular approach. This portion is 20 hours in a classroom, grades pk-6, for science and social studies. You will also teach a lesson during the practicum.

 

Prerequisite:

ED315, ED326, and ED327; successful passing of MoGEA exam; and concurrent enrollment in ED304.

 

Course Rationale:  

Students will become familiar with methods and materials for teaching science and social studies K-6th.  They will be able to explain how they will teach and why. Students will learn to utilize various resources, including technology, and create lessons aligned with the state standards.

Supplies:

Students will need to keep an “Academic Notebook” to respond to reflection questions and journal best practices. Supplies may be needed to create demonstration lessons.
