BIG BLUE BUTTON MEETING REQUIREMENTS

This is a hybrid course that includes “live” synchronous class meetings one night a week during scheduled class time using the Big Blue Button web conferencing system. Students are required to log in and attend the synchronous meetings. Students will need access to a computer or tablet with reliable high-speed internet connection, along with a webcam, microphone and either speakers or headphones. The remaining credit hours for the course will be fulfilled through online assignments completed in myCMU. Students must participate in the live meetings and online assignments to be successful in this course.

 

Students will access Big Blue Button meetings by clicking “Online Meetings” located on the left side menu of this course in myCMU. To participate in the meeting click on the appropriate week's link during the scheduled time and day of the course. Recorded sessions can also be accessed here.

Textbook and Readings

There is no textbook required for this course.  Materials for each week include 2-5 readings or videos.  These materials are found in the Resource and Materials for the course.

The course requires the student to sign up for free educational web applications.  An anonymous email may be used for this purpose.

Course Description

This course will introduce students to a number of current technologies, both hardware- and software-based, with the intent of enhancing the presentation of materials and the sharing and collaboration of information. The course will include material concerning related social, ethical, and legal issues surrounding technology.  2 credit hours.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of the course, each participant should be able to

  • Differentiate between technology and media.
  • Describe how technology and media can be a resource to facilitate instructional strategies.
  • Describe the procedures for selecting, modifying, and designing instructional materials, indicating when each choice is appropriate.
  • Discuss the advantages and limitations of the use of computers and multimedia in learning.
  • Create multimedia rich lesson plans and projects.
  • Understand the legal, ethical, and moral uses of information and technology.

This course meets the following MoSPE standards: 1C1, 1C2, 4C2, and 8C3.
