Course Description

ED102 is a 1-hour, applied experiences practicum (18 clock hours) of observing and interacting with students in a classroom and/or teaching/learning setting. ED102 requires a coerequisite; Students must be concurrently enrolled in ED101 Introduction to Education. In order to remain eligible in programs that require ED102, students must earn at least a “C” in no more than two attempts to pass the ED102 course.

This course is designed to provide prospective teachers with opportunities to observe and reflect upon authentic classroom experiences in local school sites. Practicum students will see, first-hand, how the knowledge and skills they learn in ED101 Introduction to Teaching are implemented by certified, experienced and professional educators. This practicum experience will assist the student as he/she begins researching educational career options. As stated in your ED101 textbook, TEACH (Koch, 2012), “Good teachers usually have common attributes; as you consider becoming a teacher, you must reflect on the ‘goodness of fit’ between your qualities as a person and the demands of the profession” (p. 5).  The ED102 practicum experience provides opportunities for such reflections.
