The course addresses topics relevant to the orthopedic and bio-mechanical assessment of upper-extremity function/dysfunction as well as other areas of concern above the diaphragm. The course will provide students the knowledge and skills needed for the examination process. The course will cover, in detail, evidenced based and evidence-informed practice for history, observation, special tests, diagnostic imaging, patient reported and performance based measures.

Course Objectives:

At the completion of this course the student should be able to:

• Conduct static and postural evaluation and screening procedures.
• Demonstrate record keeping skills
• Demonstrate the ability to palpate anatomical structures.
• Assess neurological responses.
• Perform proper clinical evaluation techniques, including range of motion testing.
• Perform clinical evaluations of all major body areas to assess injury and illness.
• Locate various anatomical landmarks
• Recognize the importance of clinician and patient centered outcomes and serve as an advocate for the patient through education, intervention, and collaboration among the patient, physician, family and other members of the patient’s network.
• Interpret and incorporate evidence based practice in the diagnostic process.
• Demonstrate the use of information technology to manage clinical data and access recent evidence pertaining to optimum patient care.
• Recognize the need for life-long learning and identify, administer, and confirm the use of a quality improvement objective.
• Recognize the importance of inter-professional education and collaborative practice
