Week 7:

Monday, October 1, 2018: 3:00 pm. - 4:00 pm.

Welcome to Class!

Hello Everyone!

I would like to welcome you to AC313. This is an exciting class where we get to explore the legal, ethical, and forensic side of accounting. I believe you will find this class both informative and challenging.

You will need to purchase the textbook for this class, as all of your work is written and submitted online. Please, refer to the syllabus for format and submission requirements. All assignments must be submitted through myCMU. I will NOT accept assignments that are emailed to me.

Written Assignments:

Each term I receive written submissions full of grammatical errors. I highly recommend that you utilize the resources at the writing lab and consider downloading Grammarly. Grammarly can be used with word documents, email, and even on the myCMU site for discussion post and other correspondence. Excessive grammatical errors will result in a significant grade reduction. Please, review your work before submission.

Homework Assignments:

Weekly homework assignments are graded on a completion basis. If you complete the assignment, within the guidelines of the assignment, you will receive full credit. I do NOT return weekly homework assignments. To receive full credit: I will not give full credit for homework assignments that are obviously half finished or that score lower than 60%. Please, be mindful and provide the appropriate effort when completing the assignment.

Weekly Discussion Post:

If you do not receive full credit for the discussion post assignment this means your discussion post failed to meet the minimum requirements. For the discussion post requirements, refer to your syllabus, this announcement, or view the handout under the Resource and Materials Tab.

**Discussion Post Requirements Do NOT apply to the Ask a Questions Discussion.**

Discussion Post length requirements: Initial Post - 250-word min. / Reply Post 75-word min. Length requirements are in addition to quoted and referenced material in your post. If your post is 258 words and includes a reference, it is likely not going to meet the length requirement. I would suggest using a word processor to prepare your discussion post prior to submitting so that you have an accurate word count.

**Grading: Initial Post = 10 pts / Reply Post = 5 pts / each.

Why? - The discussion board is an integral part of online learning. The length requirement is there so that you have to devote a reasonable amount of time to learning, creating thought, and engaging your classmates. This cannot be done without devoting the proper time to the assignment.

Words of Warning: At 20 points each the discussion post is a significant part of your grade. Each term I have students who lose a whole grade letter for failure to meet the minimum requirements of the assignment; this is absolutely unacceptable. These are easy points if you just take the time to participate and engage your classmates.

Contacting the Instructor:

My phone number, email, office hours, and the private discussion forum can be used to contact me. I want to be as available as possible to assist with your learning. Please, don't hesitate to reach out to me if you need help understanding the material or completing an assignment.

Instructor Feedback:

I will provide feedback for your assignments inside the assignment link on myCMU or as an attached document with grading notes applied. Please, refer to the assignment section to read feedback. You may also respond to me and ask questions in this section.

I hope that everyone is excited to start off this semester. Hopefully, the information provided will assist you in starting the class off smoothly. If you have any questions or concerns you may contact me.

Sincerely,

Professor Canania
