Wild, and Shaw. Fundamental Accounting Principles. 24th ed., United States:  McGraw-Hill Irwin, 2019. Packaged with Connect.

Connect is an online environment developed through the publisher with interactive exercises that correspond with the book. Access is required because homework is due through the Connect webpage.

There are two options available to purchase this textbook:

If you decide that you would like a physical copy of the textbook, you can purchase it later. However, the physical copy is not required. Once a student purchases an access code and registers for a course, they can purchase the loose-leaf from the Connect Course homepage. A physical copy of the book is STRONGLY recommended and it will be used for both AC201 and AC202.

Course Description

Introduction to the business approach to accounting systems with emphasis on a) the role of accounting in starting, establishing, and operating a business, b) the accounting cycle, and c) merchandising operations. Practical applications of math, communication, and skills used in business will be integrated. Prerequisite: MA103, MA1031, or ACT Math subscore >  OR  equal to 22.

 

Course Objectives

The objective of the course is to help students develop skills in solving problems through effective analysis of information and communicating this information in a business setting.  Specifically, the course seeks to support the following accounting undergraduate student learning outcomes:
 
Outcome 1:  Demonstrate the ability to develop, measure, and analyze financial & other information;
Outcome 2:  Communicate financial and other information effectively while ensuring its integrity; and
Outcome 3:  Demonstrate analytical and critical thinking skills in domestic and international settings.
