Course Description

Analysis and application of sociological theory from past to present. Specific attention is given to contemporary relevance and potential of perspectives and concepts. Prerequisites: SO101 and junior standing.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of the course, each participant should be able to:

  1. Understand the basic logic of social theory including questions of epistemology, ontology, and assumptions about the world.
  2. Understand the major theoretical traditions in sociology with focused attention to constructivist perspectives.
  3. Apply sociological theory to social issues and personal problems.
