Course Special Requirements

Students will be required to record themselves giving two demonstrations/presentations and to then upload the video to teachertube.com as part of the requirements of the course. It is the student’s responsibility to upload the videos to the teachertube.com website and to then provide the instructor with the links to the video as part of the demonstration assignments.

The student is advised to find a video device that has at least a 1-hour recording capability, minimum of 2G memory, and extended battery life. Also be sure to check the battery for your recorder before you begin your sessions.  You may want to skip a battery altogether and use an outlet.  

Course Description

A study of important discoveries in science and how they influenced our culture.  The course entails a broad selection of topics from science and technology.  There is emphasis on analyses of science-related problems; making decisions about science-related problems; and communicating solutions to science-related problems.

Course Objectives

  • Provide students with a historical sketch of the development of views about scientific method.  
  • Gain understanding of the discovery of landmark laws of nature and the great minds behind them.
  • Provide information on the historical background of the four disciplines of science; biology, geology, chemistry, and physics.
  • Provide students the opportunity for independent research and presentation of their findings.
