Course Description

RL 390 is an “[i]ntroductory course on a topic not included in the regular curriculum.” (CMU Catalog).

Course Objectives

In this course, we will work:

  1. To familiarize students with the religious traditions of China, paying particular attention to Mahayana Buddhism, Confucianism, Daoism, and folk religious practices.
  2. To trace the development and migration of religious traditions throughout the history of China.
  3. To explore the interaction of religion with the modern People’s Republic of China.
  4. This course meets general education outcomes II: 9-11.
