Course Description

A study of the causes and treatments of behavior disorders.  Special attention is given to relevant diagnostic and legal issues. Prerequisite: PY101.  3 hours.

Course Objectives

Objectives for the Course:

  1. Become familiar with the mental disorders as described in the DSM.
  2. Discuss the variety of viewpoints concerning the cause and treatment of abnormal behavior.
  3. Gain an understanding of the principles, limitations, and advantages of diagnosis.
  4. Examine the legal issues surrounding the diagnosis and treatment of abnormal behavior.
  5. Promote empathy toward individuals with mental disorders.
