Course Description
The study of scientific principles, concepts, and theories of strength training and conditioning and their applications to athletic performance designed to prepare students to teach and supervise strength and conditioning programs in athletics, recreation, and physical education.
Course Objectives
Students should be able to:
discuss how to apply physiological principles to effectively train athletes and clients to improve athletic performance and fitness.
discuss how and when to administer correct sport-specific testing sessions prior to, during, and at the conclusion of the training cycle.
define and discuss terminology to effectively train athletes in proper exercise technique and safety concerns.
design sport specific and general strength training and conditioning programs.
apply exercise prescription principles for consideration of training variation, injury prevention, and reconditioning.
demonstrate knowledge in organization and administration regarding facilities and policies.
