Course Description

Education majors study the personal health problems and the safety education of students PK through grade 12. Areas of study include growth and development, nutrition, sex and drug education, personal hygiene, and how these areas relate to the students and the community.

Course Objectives

  • Define health, wellness and describe the six dimensions of wellness and wellness lifestyle. 1.1
  • Describe growth and development of body systems for infant, children and adolescence
  • Explain what stress is and how people react to it-physically, emotionally, and behaviorally. 1.8, 3.1, 3.7
  • List common sources of stress and list techniques for preventing and managing stress. 3.13.2, 3.5, 3.7
  • Explain dietary guidelines and follow a healthful diet that reduces the risk of disease. 3.1, 1.8
  • Describe guidelines for choosing behaviors to reduce risk of infection with communicable disease and responsible sexual behavior. 1.9, 2.2
  • Explain factors contributing to drug use and dependence. 3.2, 3.3, 1.5
  • List the factors about environmental health such as clean air, safe water, sound and noise as well as help conserve energy and natural resources. 1.5
  • Describe the immediate and long-term effects of drinking alcohol. 1.5
  • Define alcohol abuse, binge drinking and alcoholism and discuss their effects on the drinker and others. 1.5
  • Explain the short- and long-term health risks associated with tobacco use. 1.5

Course Assessment
