Discrete Mathematics and Its Applications, 8th edition, by Rosen. Published by McGraw-Hill. Connect Access. ISBN 978-1259731242

Connect is a publisher created online courseware. Students will submit homework in the online Connect webspace. Therefore, it is required for this course. Connect access includes an ebook version of this textbook. That is all you will need. If you prefer a paper copy, you can purchase that inexpensively from the publisher or from another source.

Connect has a free 2 week trial version that you can use first day of the course. After the 2 weeks, you must purchase continued access to the course.

When the course opens, the instructor will give you an address to register for the specific course. This will be located in Bookmarks in Resources and Materials.

 

Course Description

Introduction to discrete mathematics topics including counting methods, graph theory, recursion, number theory, and writing proofs using direct and indirect reasoning and induction.  Prerequisite: ACT Math subscore ≥ 22, or a C or better in MA103 or MA103I, or by permission of Chair.

 

Course Objectives

By the end of this course students should possess a working knowledge of counting methods, mathematical logic, recursion, and graph theory.  Each student will also learn basic problem solving skills using mathematical skills.
