Access to MyMathLab may also be purchased online with a credit card once the course has begun. Students may use the ebook in the MyMathLab courseware rather than the hard cover textbook. MyMathLab courseware is the web based software that is used for homework and testing. The ebook is a pdf version of the textbook in the software.

Course Description

The differentiation and integration of algebraic functions and transcendental functions of a single variable, and an introduction to analytic geometry.  Prerequisites: ACT math subscore ≥ 22 or having passed MA103 (or MA103I) with a C or above and having passed MA104 with a grade of C or better or by permission of Chair. Students having MA112 credit receive 3 hours for this course.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of the course, each participant should be able to:

  1. Evaluate the limit of selected algebraic and transcendental functions.
  2. Determine the continuity of selected algebraic and transcendental functions.
  3. Differentiate selected algebraic and transcendental functions by using the definition of the derivative and by using the power, product, quotient, and chain rules.
  4. Graph functions and discuss the behavior of these functions by using the first and second derivatives and by using a graphing calculator.
  5. Find the equations of tangent and normal lines to a function.
  6. Use differentiation and/or the graphing capabilities of calculators to solve problems including max/min, motion, and related rates.
  7. Evaluate selected definite integrals by use of summation techniques.
  8. Evaluate selected definite integrals by applying the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus.
