Course Description

A study of equations and inequalities, functions and graphs, and systems of equations and inequalities. Prerequisite: ACT Math subscore ≥ 22.  3 hours.

Course Objectives

Students will be able to simplify and solve linear, polynomial, and exponential equations as well as model applications from a problem solving perspective.  Students will develop critical thinking and mathematical reasoning skills.

Upon successful completion of this class students will be able to:

  • Simplify and solve linear equations and inequalities
  • Graph linear equations and functions
  • Solve systems of linear equations
  • Apply properties of exponents to simplify polynomial functions
  • Factor polynomials
  • Simplify rational expressions
  • Solve radical equations and simplify radicals
  • Solve quadratic equations using a variety of strategies
  • Graph quadratic and higher degree polynomial functions
  • Solve exponential equations using logarithms
  • Create and solve models for problems in all areas above
