Course Description

Vietnam was America's longest war.  The class examines that war and all of its ramifications.  Covering the early history of Vietnam, to the years after the Vietnam War, the class places America's Southeast Asian conflict within a larger global framework.

Course Objectives

  • Allow students the opportunity to examine the American experience in the Vietnam War and to search for meaning in this experience.
  • Allow students to arrive at their own conclusions concerning the impact of the Vietnam War on America.
  • To challenge students to think critically about the war and the use of military power in lieu of diplomacy to settle differences between nations.
  • Analyze the nature of the Vietnamese revolutionary movement 1930 - 1975.
  • Analyze the America's participation in the Vietnam War and the lessons learned.
