Course Description

HI103 Introduction to Missouri Civics. 1 hour. An introduction to the Missouri Constitution, state political institutions, and processes. This course will fulfill the Missouri State Civics requirement for transfer students who have completed coursework from a non-Missouri institution in American Government or a survey of American History I or an equivalent course which covers the U.S. Constitution. Cross-listed with PS103. Prerequisite: American Government or American History I at an out-of-state institution.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of the course, each participant should be able to:
 

a. introduce and explore the concept of civics and citizenship participation in government.
b. introduce and explore important Missouri locations and maps to understand the influence of Missouri geography on its constitutional history. (MOSPE 1C1)

c. understand the complexity of Missouri’s political institutions and constitution (MOSPE 1C1)

d. understand Missouri's political parties and voting (MOSPE 1C1)

e. familiarize with important Missouri history, facts and chronology. (MOSPE 1C1)
