1. Students will have a better understanding of the Hispanic demography in the United States.
2. Students will learn about the cultures of Central and Latin America, including but not limited to, language, cultural beliefs, family dynamics, and interpersonal relationships.
3. Students will demonstrate the importance of these cultural traits in caring for Hispanics in the health care setting through case studies and article reviews.
4. Students will observe in the hospital setting various cultures and learn that there are many cultures and sub-cultures including those of demographic, religious, and economic backgrounds.
5. Students will synthesize their learning in a final project in which they identify a local community need, do a needs analysis, use adaptations learned in the course, and describe an outreach project. It will include scope, cost, audience, health care need, and cultural adaptations necessary to serve the Hispanic population.
