EN 516: Creative Writing: Craft & Pedagogy is an advanced study of creative writing craft and creative writing pedagogies.  We will consider multiple genres of creative writing (poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction essays, and script writing), the craft of each genre, and contexts for pedagogical choices. 3 hours

Course Objectives

From the Proposal:

  • Students will recognize and participate in professional and scholastic discourses within creative writing studies.
  • Students will draw on and compare genres, movements, and theory to create new knowledge.
  • Students will analyze and evaluate language in creative genres. 
  • Students will develop a personal creative writing pedagogy. 
  • Students will compose works, alone and in conjunction with classmates, that demonstrate their ability to think creatively about specific creative writing genres.
  • Students will contextualize creative writing within both English and Composition studies.
