Course Description

EN110 focuses on techniques of topic development, drafting, and revision to help students write clear, concise sentences, paragraphs, and essays. EN110 is also the study of grammar, syntax, and diction and their relationship to effective writing.

By the end of College Composition I, students should be able to…

  • Focus on a clear and sustained purpose in writing.
  • Respond to the needs and expectations of different audiences.
  • Respond to the demands of different genres and rhetorical situations.
  • Understand writing as an open process that usually includes multiple drafts and significant rethinking and revision.
  • Carefully and honestly critique their own and others' work.
  • Describe, deploy, analyze, and explain information accurately and specifically.
  • Better edit their writing for style, correctness, and clarity.
