Course Description

This course is designed to provide special education teachers with strategies for classroom and behavior management. Students will address such topics as a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA), Behavior Improvement Plans, Adaptive Behavior Analysis, Discreet Trial Training, picture schedules, and picture stories. 3 credit hours.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of the course, each participant should be able to:

  • Understand the Prevention and Management of Learning and Behavior Problems.
  • Identify the Continuum of Behavior Support.
  • Recognize the importance of Classroom Climate.
  • Understand how Instructional Delivery impacts Student Behaviors.
  • Identify the Instructional Delivery Models.
  • Develop a lesson plan for social skills.
  • Recognize Low-Intensity Strategies of Behavior Supports.
  • Develop a Behavior Contract / Behavior Intervention Plan.
  • Understand the Process of Self-Monitoring of Students with Behavior Concerns
  • Develop a picture story and picture schedule
  • Recognize the effectiveness of Function-Based Assessment Interventions.
