Big Blue Button Meeting Requirement

This is a hybrid course that includes “live” synchronous class meetings one night a week during scheduled class time using the Big Blue Button web conferencing system. Students are required to log in and attend the synchronous meetings. Students will need access to a computer or tablet with reliable high-speed internet connection, along with a webcam, microphone and either speakers or headphones.

The remaining credit hours for the course will be fulfilled through online assignments completed in myCMU. Students must participate in the live meetings and online assignments to be successful in this course.

Students will access Big Blue Button meetings by clicking “Online Meetings” located on the left side menu of this course in myCMU. To participate in the meeting click on the appropriate weeks link during the scheduled time and day of the course. Recorded sessions can also be accessed here.

Course Description

This course is the first in a series of three courses designed to introduce students to curriculum, assessment, student data, data-based decision making, and instructional strategies. 2 credit hours. 

Course Prerequisites:   ED101/102 with a grade of C or better, Successful passage of MoGEA, and Junior standing or permission of Director of Professional Education.

Course Objectives

Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:

  1. Know characteristics of effective teachers
  2. Understand what to expect the first day and first year of teaching
  3. Develop lesson plans, unit plans with consideration to the Missouri Learning Standards, grade level expectations/course level expectations.(Mo-SPE: 1C4, 2C3, 2C5,3C1
  4. Communicate learning objectives. (Mo-SPE:6C1)
  5. Create lesson plans/unit plans with consideration to differentiated instruction and learning styles. (Mo-SPE: 3C3, 4C3)
  6. Demonstrate knowledge of critical thinking and problem solving, including various types of instructional strategies, to support student engagement in higher level thinking skills. (4C1)
  7. Have a working knowledge of the basics of classroom, time, and behavior management. (MoSPE:5C1, 5C3, 5C4)
  8. Develop strategies for assessing student progress. (Mo-SPE: 7C1, 7C4)
  9. Demonstrate an understanding of how to work with parents and involve them in their student’s education.(Mo-SPE: 9C1, 9C3)
  10. The student will demonstrate the ability to use professional resources related to teaching, including various classroom techniques.
