Course Special Requirements

Students in this course are required to take the Missouri Educator Profile (MEP) assessment and to submit a 1-2 page reflection on their results.  The MEP is an assessment of work style preferences used to support the development of effective educator work habits.  All teacher education candidates at CMU must take this assessment.  The cost for the assessment is $22, and students must pay this cost with credit/debit card at the Missouri Educator Gateway Assessments website. 

Course Description

Applied experiences (12-18 clock hours) working with students in a classroom setting. Concurrent enrollment in ED101. In order to remain eligible in programs that require ED102, students must earn at least a "C" in no more than two attempts to pass ED102.

Course Objectives

1) Review, analyze, and reflect upon the MoSPE Standards.

2) Identify the role of education in American Society.

3) Investigate major historical, philosophical, legal, and social issues affecting American education.

4) Clarify the roles, expectations, and ethics of professional educators.

5) Be introduced to the Missouri Learning Standards.

6) Identify and reflect upon life and school experiences that will impact the beginning educator’s development and effectiveness

7) Recognize the relationship of child/adolescent development and how home and society can place students at risk.

8) Be acquainted with, recognize, and draw conclusions about the behaviors of effective educators.

9) Be introduced to learning, motivational, behavioral, and management theories.

10) Be made aware of legislation specialized services and their responsibility as teachers to the special needs learner.

11) Be informed of how culture, gender, intellectual, social, and physical ability differences affect the learner.

12) Be exposed to a number of media communication tools utilized by the professional educators.

13) Evaluate and reflect their influence on student learning.

14) Recognize the social, ethical, and legal issues of technology in the classroom.

15) Be informed of the importance of practicing professional ethics and its impact on the future as a professional educator.

16) The student will participate in a practicum experience for 12-18 hours.
