This course is designed to meet the needs of students who are not majoring in accounting or business (who are required to take both EC201: Macroeconomics and EC202: Microeconomics). This course will cover basic ideas from both microeconomics and macroeconomics but without using the traditional tools of analysis that rely on a substantial amount of mathematics and graphing. I hope to avoid much of the jargon usually associated with introductory economics classes. We will instead explore the fascinating world of economics using (mostly) plain English. I believe that this approach will help students to “think like an economist” when they look at real-world events, but it is important to keep in mind that economics is just as rigorous in its structure as any natural or social science, so principles of logical thinking cannot be abandoned at the door to the classroom.
