Course Description

(1 credit hour) This course will introduce key areas students need to develop in order to be ethical and informed digital citizens in an increasingly technology rich world. The course will include material concerning related social, ethical, environmental, and legal issues surrounding technology. It will also provide a grounding in digital and civic literacy.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of the course, each participant should be able to:

  • Understand how digital information is accessed and retrieved.
  • Understand the implications of being producers of digital information.
  • Evaluate their role as customers in an online marketplace.
  • Evaluate the value of the internet as a mechanism for civic action.
  • Assess the impact of technology on social and mental well-being.
  • Identify the environmental and societal impact of technology.
  • Understand the basic tenets of digital literacy.
