Course Description

This course provides an intensive introduction to the online learning program at Central Methodist University. It includes an introduction to myCMU, CMU’s learning management system (LMS), which is the basis for the delivery of online courses at CMU, an exploration of the requirements for success in online learning (which may be quite different from the things that make for success in on ground classes), and a review of the academic resources available to online students at myCMU.

 

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, each participant should be able to:

  • understand the technical requirements for participating in online courses offered by Central Methodist University;
  • understand the special challenges presented by online as compared to on ground classes, including issues relating to learning styles and time management;
  • appreciate the importance of communicating with instructors and the different forms that communications can take;
  • use the different features of myCMU (online quizzes and tests, File Exchange assignments, Discussion Forums, posting a picture, etc.);
  • access online resources available from the CMU library system;
  • understand the material covered in the Online Student Manual; and
  • troubleshoot common technical problems associated with taking online courses.
