Course Overview:

In CMU101, we concentrated on study skills and life skills necessary for academic success, familiarization with campus facilities and activities, coverage of the CMU catalog and prospective degree plans, and introduction to the students’ chosen major.   This second class in the sequence, CMU102, concentrates more exclusively on issues related to the major as well as introducing leadership principles and discipline specific skills associated with a career in the major.  This class meets twice a week for 8 weeks.

 

Learning Objectives:

Students who successfully complete CMU 102 will:

  • explore academic interests and career opportunities in their field of interest
  • conduct a job search to learn more about specific jobs to which they may aspire
  • identify opportunities to gain experience through internships, research and job shadowing
  • learn about entrance requirements and application strategies for graduate and professional schools
  • hear from professionals working in traditional and non-traditional jobs
  • attend student professional organization meetings available on campus
