Aug. 31 Read Community in Action and The Learning Curve of Gratitude - write down two things that strike you as profound, interesting, or weird about each reading - the readings are posted under Resources and Materials - we will discuss your observations in class (be prepared to contribute)

Sept. 2  Fill out a planner (iStudiez Pro or something else - your choice).  Include all classes, homework, practice and homework times, and eating times.

Sept. 7 Planner check, Alcohol Awareness (watch the video and read the document - write/type 5 things that surprised you and/or things you think more college students need to be aware of (you will Air Drop those lists to me), download This I Believe II

Sept. 9  read A Duty to Family, Heritage, and Country by Ying Ying Yu (next to last one), We’re All Different in Our Own Way by Joshua Yuchasz (last), and My Home Is New Orleans by Mike Miller.

Type responses to the following questions and submit them on myCMU.

  • Do you feel a sense of duty to your family, heritage, or country?  If so, explain.  If not, do you believe in a “duty” to follow your dream?
  • We’ve all had moments when we were around someone who was different than the rest of the community.  Perhaps, they have Asperger’s Syndrome, like our author, or maybe it is something else.  What do you try to do to show your respect for people in regardless of their differences. 
  • Do you feel connected to a location?  Perhaps it is your hometown, but maybe it is somewhere else.  Why do you feel that special connection?  If you don’t, that is ok!  Tell me why you think that is. 

Sept. 14 - meet for class at the art gallery in Classic Hall, HW:  planners, upload recognizable photo of yourself on myCMU.

Sept. 16 - type a 1-2 page reflection of your art gallery experience, submit on myCMU - give your opinion and support it

Sept. 21 - set-up a Handshake account (click here for a helpful video), Grade Report Homework (upload)

Sept. 23 -

Sept. 28 - Choose one curiosity behavior you are going to implement in your classes for the rest of the week.  Over the weekend, reflect on how well that behavior change worked and type 1-2 paragraphs explaining to me what you did and the impact on your attitude and learning.  (upload)

Sept. 30 - complete all 5 Focus 2 assessments.  If you didn't set-up your Handshake account, the video is posted on Sept. 21.   Here are links to the videos we watched in class:

Oct. 5 - no homework!

Oct. 7 - Focus 2 reflection - Type 2 or more paragraphs responding to the following questions.  What was your Holland Code? Do you find that accurate?  Why or why not?  Where you surprised by the occupations suggested for you?  Why or why not?

Oct. 12 - Complete the Classes for Spring 2021 document - please type (document posted in Resources & Materials)

Oct. 14 - Read Music Makes Me Come Alive and God Is Good because He Comes Alive from This I Believe II.  There will be a quiz.

Oct. 19 - Grade Report HW (form is posted under Resources and Materials - be specific about success strategies)

Oct. 21 - Library HW

Oct. 26 - upload screen shot of completed registration

Oct. 28 - upload either list of three possible topics for your This I Believe essay OR a short description of what your essay will be about

Nov. 2 - Find two places you have seen the mission statement being carried out and describe them to me.  Then, find three examples of how faculty are implementing ULPs (one per wedge) in your classes.  Type a minimum of three sentences for each item.  Also, Homework Amnesty ends at 8 am!

Nov. 4 - This I Believe essays are due (directions in Resources and Materials tab)
