I. Course Description:

This course is designed to introduce the student to modern environmental toxicology.The course will be a survey of the current trends in toxicology, the types of environmental toxins, testing methods and effects upon the populations and systems of our planet.

II. Course Rationale:

This course is designed to introduce the student to modern environmental toxicology.Never in history has there been a greater need for man and society to understand the complex nature of our planet and the stress we are placing upon it.

III. Course Objectives:

1.Understand our role in environmental decision making. 2. Understand the various toxicity testing methods.3.Understand the actions of different toxins.4.To study the various environmental toxins.5.Risk assessment for the environment.

IV. Course Expectations:

1. The student will be able to understand the relationship between man and the environment.

2.The student will be able accomplish course objectives.

3.The student is expected to attend class and lab.

4.If you miss a class or lab you can make the quiz up, but it will be a different quiz, with an unexcused absence you cannot make up the quiz. If you miss a test, expect a different more challenging test.Quizzes will be unannounced, but often.

5.If you have to miss because of a university sponsored event, I must be notified BEFORE the event and work is to be completed before absence.

V.Assessments:

1. Test:

  • There will be at least 3 tests during the semester.
  • There will be multiple quizzes throughout.
  • There will be case studies over course content throughout the semester; these will be completed as a group.
  • The final will be scored the same as the other test.
  • All scores will be posted asap, typically by the next class session.
  • There will be assigned reading, that will be completed before class.
  • Assesments can be made up if absence is a CMU absence or Dr excuse, all other misses will be unexcused.

Spring Break: March 9th- 16th.

Test will be scheduled throughout semester. Typically two test and a final.Expect a quiz every class period over material covered, current reading and everything that has been discussed.
