Course Description

3 credit hours. The student is introduced to the current basic requirements for the recording and appropriate sharing of health information through mostly electronic systems. Included are aspects of the evolving Electronic Medical Record. (Prerequisites HS304 and HS314)

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course the student should be able to:
  1. Define and analyze how historical events have determined the definition and scope of practice in health care informatics.
  2. Use theories to analyze, predict, and manage health care informatics in the health care field.
  3. Define the role of evidence based practice across health care systems in the application of health care informatics.
  4. Define the terms associated with the Electronic Medical Record, examine applications in the clinical setting and apply concepts to practice.
