Course Description

The student researches current professional literature on each of the core topic areas of the Health Sciences degree. Weekly, each student provides a formal discussion of the assigned core topic area as it pertains to their practicum experience that is supported by current professional literature. Students respond to peers weekly in constructive dialogue, and utilize current professional literature to support their peer responses. APA format is required for discussions but not for responses. The final project at the end of the course provides the student with the opportunity to summarize what has been learned in the course.  3 credit hours.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of the course, each participant should be able to:

  • Critically discuss the pertinence of each of the core topics to his/her area of professional allied health practice.
  • Exhibit the ability to conduct research of current literature for the purposes of defining, supporting, discussing, and/or defending informed positions relevant to the core topics and his/her area of professional allied health practice.
  • Demonstrate the ability to analyze and synthesize information found in current professional journals to support a critical discussion of a topic.
