Course Description

In this introductory course, students will learn the key elements of health care management. Topics covered will include career opportunities, leadership, management and motivation, organizational behavior, strategic planning, healthcare marketing, quality of care, basic financial challenges, ethics and legal issues.

Course Objectives

  1. Identify the various health care management career opportunities
  2. Differentiate the concepts and theories unique to the profession of health care management
  3. Develop research and analytical skills in using materials and references, tools and/or technology central to health care management
  4. Recognize and understand the perspectives and values of health care management
  5. Understand the basic management skills needed to work productively both alone and in a team
  6. Integrate health care management theory with real world problems through the use of case studies
