Students will be required to be on the Fayette campus for a particular number of days for the lab portion of the course.

This course reviews the legal underpinnings of the profession of nursing and human developmental concepts. Basic communication skills pertinent to therapeutic communication utilized in healthcare are explored. The nursing process is explained, and the student is introduced to Roy’s Adaptation Model. Lab sessions introduce the student to basic skills required by professional nurses.  Lecture/Discussion/Lab.   This course is a prerequisite to all CLAS nursing courses.

9. Demonstrate understanding of how APA is used and how it relates to research articles.
10. Describe & discuss the education programs, roles, and career opportunities for nurses.
11. Recognize nursing leadership roles in the provision and coordination of healthcare as a direct care provider, teacher, and communicator.
12. Identify the health care delivery team and appropriate interaction among members in today’s health care system and how it impacts the role of the nurse.
