Hello Original post: Mon 1/18/2021 at 7:21 AM

Hello class, my name is Kelsey Stipp. I am 30 years old and currently live in Carl Junction, Mo. I am currently attending CMU pursuing my bachelor’s in accountancy. I graduated in May with my Associates of Business from Crowder College in Neosho, MO. The first eight weeks of last semester I took statistics, which was a doozy, and intermediate accounting. I have previous experience in banking. I work full time at a small construction company, working with a/p, invoicing, tax preparation, and general accounting duties. I hope to eventually be the controller when our current controller retires. I began my interest in accounting at my previous job, which closed due to Covid-19. I worked as a production coordinator alongside the controller at an egg processing plant. The controller gave me the opportunity to appreciate accounting and gain knowledge while working. I worked closely with him while inputting inventory/cost information into SAP and with month end activities. I am hoping to gain more knowledge of accounting to apply to my normal workday. I also hope to someday achieve my CPA license and open my own firm or help people on the side with taxes or bookkeeping questions. School seemed so unobtainable when I first started, but being so close to my bachelor’s end date of Spring 2022 is so refreshing. I am happy I stuck with it!

Kelsey, first off I am so happy that you are continuing your education even through all that you have dealt with and while working. I myself work and go to school full time and the hours seem absolutely endless. I am very sorry to hear about your loss of work due to Covid-19 but hopefully this possible new opportunity to become the financial controller will be a blessing in disguise. If not, understanding how to be a controller if nothing else is great to put on a resume. Getting your CPA license doesn't seem far off with you already so involved in the accounting world. I am definitely a believer that having the knowledge, getting your degree and knowing the business will give you a lot of credibility for you to create your own business so I do hope you pursue that. We graduate at the same time, it is very exciting! Hope you have a wonderful semester.

Kelsey,

Your job sounds just like mine! I work with SAP and pull reports out for the week and the end of month. As I get closer to graduation, my plant accountant will train me on the accountant side of things so I can become a accounting associate for our plant. I also plan on graduating in the spring of 2022.

Good luck this semester!
